Definition
Sludge is the very nice way of saying very gross things. Sludge (sometiems referred to as sewage sludge) is a byproduct of the wastewater treatment process. Sludge it is a mix of organic matter - such as human waste and food was particles, along with microorganisms, trace chemicals and inorganic solids from products and medicines that we use every day.
After treatment, you may see sludge being referred to as a 'biosolids'. These biosolids can then be applied on land, thrown into a landfill or incinerated.
