Struvite

Definition

Struvite is a crystalline mineral composed of magnesium, ammonium, and phosphate which forms naturally in wastewater systems when magnesium, ammonium, and phosphate molecules combine under alkaline conditions.


In wastewater treatment engineering, controlled struvite precipitation is used to recover phosphorus and nitrogen from waste streams.
