Behnaz Jafari
Convergence Coordinator
Dr. Behnaz Jafari is a Senior Research Associate at Texas Tech University with expertise in chemical engineering, electrochemical systems, and sustainable resource recovery. Her research focuses on developing innovative technologies for nutrient recovery from wastewater, including ion-exchange processes, membrane systems, and electrothermal separation technologies. In addition, she contributes to the development of electrochemical sensors and biosensors. She earned her Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Texas Tech University, where her work centered on multifunctional graphene-based textiles and electrochemical sensors.
Dr. Jafari serves as the Convergence Coordinator for CASFER, the NSF Engineering Research Center for Advancing Sustainable and Distributed Fertilizer Production. In this role, she facilitates collaboration across multidisciplinary teams and coordinates activities among CASFER partner institutions, industry partners, and other stakeholders.
In addition to her research activities, she has experience in entrepreneurship and startup development, including co-founding ventures and supporting the commercialization of innovative technologies.
