Definition

Generally speaking, a testbed is an environment or facility in which scientists can test new processes, equipment, or software. Researchers put this new product through rigorous tests and experiments to ensure that the product is safe and that their scientific findings can be repeated. The testbed functions as a space to determine if the researcher's hypotheses are correct and make sure that the new product is doing what it is supposed to be doing. Testbeds are used to verify the proof of concept before mass production.

At CASFER, we are working vigorously to develop our testbeds, which will be placed in different environments around the country. These testbeds will help us determine the most cost-efficient and environmentally sustainable ways of harvesting nitrogen from waste streams (primarily concentrated animal feeding operations and wastewater treatment plants). And eventually testbeds will help us measure the effectiveness of our fertilizer.
